Sport Dentistry

Sports dentistry deals with the prevention and treatment of dental injuries and associated oral disorders, as well as the sharing of knowledge and tools that can help athletes of all ages safeguard their teeth, mouths, jaws, and faces. Athletes frequently sustain mouth and dental injuries. If your child participates in sports, it’s crucial to safeguard their smile for both cosmetic and health reasons.

COMMON DENTAL INJURIES IN SPORTS
TOOTH KNOCKED OUT

  • The most crucial element in trying to save a tooth is time, so see our clinic as soon as you can. In general, you have 30 minutes to put a permanent tooth back in its socket after extraction.
  • Never attempt to place the tooth again yourself.
  • Cold milk is the ideal liquid to transport a tooth in. Use saliva (if possible), saline, or water if none of the other options are accessible if milk is not readily available.
  • Keep the tooth from drying out and avoid wrapping it.
  • If you can avoid it, avoid touching the tooth root.

TOOTH CHIPPED/CRACKED

  • To determine the required therapy, we’ll probably take an X-ray of the tooth.
  • Get to our clinic as soon as you can if a significant chip exposes the tooth’s pulp.
  • Sometimes a filling or bonding by itself can repair a chipped or damaged tooth.
  • Sometimes a tooth’s nerve is damaged by a crack or chip, in which case a more involved procedure may be required.

TOOTH AVULSED OR DISPLACED

  • Visit us as soon as you can if a tooth is knocked out or avulsed as a result of trauma.
  • Do not attempt to reposition the tooth on your own.
  • Apply ice to any oral irritation before you visit our office.
