Preparing Your Child for the First Dental Visit.

Going to the dentist is an important part of staying healthy. It’s a good idea to take your child to the dentist as soon as their first tooth comes in, or around their first birthday. This first visit is important because it helps your child get used to the dentist’s office and helps the dentist get to know your child. Here are a few things you can do to prepare your child for their first dental visit:

  • Explain to your child what a dental visit is and why it is important. Let them know that the dentist is there to help keep their teeth healthy.
  • Reassure your child that the dentist and dental staff are there to help them.
  • Encourage your child to ask the dentist any questions they may have.
  • Help your child practice good oral hygiene at home so that they are prepared for their appointment.
  • Show your child pictures of the dentist’s office and the dental chair.
  • Help your child practice opening their mouth wide for the dentist.
  • Make sure your child is well-rested and has eaten before the visit.
  • Stay calm and relaxed. Your child will pick up on your cues.

The first dental visit is just a chance for your child to get to know the dentist and for the dentist to get to know your child.
